- The Redmi 9i has launched in India.
- Based on the Redmi 9A, the phone features more RAM and storage than its sibling.
- It will be available from September 18 starting at ~$113.
If you’re struggling to keep up with the Redmi 9 series devices launched in the past two months, we don’t blame you. Now, you’ll have to learn the name of yet another after Xiaomi unveiled the Redmi 9i in India.
Despite the new moniker, the Redmi 9i is ostensibly a Redmi 9A on paper and in the flesh apart from RAM and storage buffs. The minimum amount of RAM is now pegged at 4GB, while 64GB of storage is also the lowest you can go on the Redmi 9i. Joining this combo is a MediaTek Helio G25 mated to a 5,000mAh battery, a dual SIM slot, and a dedicated microSD card slot.
Upfront, the Redmi 9i sports a 6.53-inch display with 1,600 x 720 resolution and a fairly sizeable bezel compared to its contemporaries. At the top, the bezel also includes a 5MP selfie camera seated within a waterdrop notch. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone port, while users will get just one 13MP camera at the rear. It runs Android 10 with Xiaomi’s MIUI skin on top.
Redmi 9i: Price and availability in India
The Redmi 9i will go on sale from September 18 at 12 PM IST (2:30 AM ET) on Flipkart, Xiaomi’s online store, and other retailers. Three colorways will be on offer, including Midnight Black, Nature Green, and Sea Blue.
The 64GB storage model will start at Rs 8,299 (~$113), while the 128GB variant will cost Rs 9,299 (~$126).
That’s a mild premium over its Redmi 9A sibling, but this phone is effectively a mildly upgraded 9A. Still, there’s plenty of competition in the sub-Rs 10,000 price range from other companies vying for your business.
