  • Samsung is releasing the Galaxy Watch 3 in titanium on October 2 for $600.
  • The new model has a lighter, more luxurious case as well as a metal strap.
  • It’s only available in one size and without LTE, however.

If the standard Galaxy Watch 3 isn’t posh enough for you, Samsung has a premium alternative. As teased at the smartwatch’s launch, Samsung is releasing the Galaxy Watch 3 in titanium on October 2 in the US at a price of $600 for a 45mm Bluetooth model in Mystic Black.

That’s a significant premium over the $430 price for a stainless steel Galaxy Watch 3, but the company is promising some practical advantages if you choose titanium. The upscale version’s body weighs 1.5oz versus the 1.9oz of its steel counterpart. While that doesn’t include the strap (more on this in a moment), it could make the new version easier to wear for long periods.

This is the only Galaxy Watch 3 variant to come with a metal bracelet instead of the usual leather strap. Whether or not you prefer the aesthetics, the material makes the watch more practical for fitness — you can wear it through an intense workout without worrying about sweat.

You’re otherwise getting the same watch as before, with SpO2 (blood oxygen) monitoring to track your heart’s effectiveness in addition to more commonplace features like heart rate tracking and VO2 max. The display is still covered in Gorilla Glass DX, and a dual-core Exynos 9110 chip powers the wristwear alongside 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It remains IP68 water-resistant and boasts “military-grade” longevity.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 The latest and greatest smartwatch from Samsung
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is one of the more versatile smartwatches you can buy. It's stylish, sporty, comes with plenty of smartwatch features, and has new health sensors that will make the watch better over time.

Just be sure you like the size and connectivity. Unlike the steel Galaxy Watch 3, the titanium edition is only available in a 45mm Bluetooth configuration. You won’t find a 41mm version for thinner wrists, nor will you get LTE. If you prefer to leave your phone at home while staying connected, you’ll have to ‘settle’ for steel.

Still, this is one of the few luxury-oriented Samsung smartwatches available in recent years, and certainly the only luxurious Galaxy Watch 3 you can buy by itself. The Thom Browne model (really the standard version with a unique strap) is only available bundled with a limited edition Galaxy Z Fold 2.

The Galaxy Watch 3 model is also notable as one of the few relatively affordable titanium smartwatches beyond certain versions of the Apple Watch. After that, you’re looking at considerably more expensive (and less capable) options like the TAG Heuer Connected series. Samsung is offering a bargain of sorts — this is one of the few Android-friendly smartwatches that comes in a higher-end material while remaining somewhat attainable.
