Leak suggests Huawei’s first ANC headphones will take aim at Sony and Bose

The Huawei FreeBuds Studio have appeared in a leak.
The headphones are tipped to offer ANC and long battery life.
They could be priced just shy of €400 (~$468).

Details about Huawei’s first over-ear headphones — the Huawei FreeBuds Studio — have leaked thanks to marketing material accessed by folks over at WinFuture. The headphones feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and are said to cost just short of €400 (~$468).

At that price, it’s hard not to draw comparisons between the new Huawei headphones and the likes of the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 or the Sony WH-1000XM4. It looks like Huawei is pretty confident of taking on established industry players and is keen on growing its device portfolio given the blow its smartphone business has suffered of late.

In terms of specs, the Huawei FreeBuds Studio are said to offer a 40mm dynamic driver powered by the same Huawei Kirin A1 chip that also runs the Huawei FreeBuds Pro true wireless earbuds. As such, the sound quality and ANC performance on the upcoming headset should be good. The leak suggests that the headphones can reduce ambient noise by up to 40 decibels.

Battery life on the new Huawei headphones should also be decent. They are tipped to come with two 410mAh batteries that can last up to 20 hours for music playback and 15 hours for phone calls. However, there’s no info on how long the batteries last with ANC turned on.

Elsewhere, the headphones feature a USB-C port for charging and can apparently be topped up for five hours in 10 minutes. They’re also said to come with the latest Bluetooth 5.2 standard, so connectivity should be pretty stable.

All-in-all, the specs of the Huawei FreeBuds Studio sound pretty promising. What’s left to see is how well they perform in real life and if they can actually bring the heat to the Bose, Sony, and Sennheiser’s of the world.
