Yootech F500 Wireless Charger review: An inexpensive travel option

Once you get used to charging your devices wirelessly, reverting to cables feels antiquated. I charge nearly everything wirelessly at every opportunity. That also extends to travel. While some wireless chargers, such as the Samsung Wireless Charging Stand and the Native Union Dock Charger are meant to stay home, there are tons of travel-friendly wireless chargers out there. One such option is the Yootech F500 Wireless Charger.

The Yootech F500 Wireless Charger is a great little charging pad. It's small, affordable, and supports up to 10W wireless charging for your smartphone.
About this Yootech F500 Wireless Charger review: We tested the Yootech F500 Wireless Charger review unit over a period of several days with a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus and an Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max. Android Authority purchased the charging pad for the purposes of this review.

The Yootech F500 Wireless Charger is a charging pad. That means it’s a small disc that lays flat. You lay your phone down on top of it to charge, rather than stand it up. Stands have their own appeal, as they often allow you to use or view your phone while it is charging. Charging pads, on the other hand, are basic in their nature and focus on simply charging your device.

The F500 is a compact disc that almost looks like a small frisbee. It has a rubber ring on top to stabilize your phone and a rubber ring on the bottom to stabilize the charger itself. A cool light runs all the way around the outer edge of the charger. Don’t worry, it only stays lit for 16 seconds when you first place your phone on the charger. It turns off so as not to disturb your sleep.

Due to the small size, your phone will completely cover the charger as it charges. I found it was easy enough to center my device to initiate charging. The best part about the size, however, is that it is ideal for travel. The F500 easily fits in a backpack or purse, which means you can bring the luxury of wireless charging whoever you go.

The box includes the charger and a 1m USB-A-to-USB-C cable. There is no charging brick. We recommend you use the charging brick that came with your phone.

How does it perform?

The Yootech F500 Wireless Charger is based on the universal Qi wireless charging standard. It charges at up to 10W for most Samsung phones, up to 7.5W for supported iPhones, and 5W for everything else. Yootech didn’t specify why non-Samsung phones aren’t able to tap into the faster 10W charging.

The F500 speedily charged up my Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus. The majority of Samsung’s recent phones natively support the fastest charging rate and will outperform non-Samsung devices. The Note 10 Plus reached 14% in 15 minutes, 30% in 30 minutes, 58% in 60 minutes, and a full charge in a little over 100 minutes. The iPhone 11 Max Pro charged much slower due to the 7.5W limitation. It required 65 minutes to reach a 50% charge and close to two and a half hours for a full charge.

The F500 also works well with certain accessories. For example, Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Live and Apple’s AirPods Pro fit on the charging pad perfectly.

Should you buy the Yootech F500 Wireless Charger?

Yootech did a great job with the travel-friendly F500 Wireless Charger. The pad serves as an excellent travel accessory due to its compact size. Moreover, it boosts Samsung phones’ batteries in a jiffy. I wish there were a charging brick included, but the device is so inexpensive it’s hard to complain.

Amazon sells the Yootech F500 Wireless Charger for $10.99. It’s about as cheap as a wireless charging pad gets. In other words, don’t buy just one, buy several.
