As part of its CES 2021 activities, Lenovo has announced a trio of new IdeaPad notebooks: the IdeaPad 5i Pro, IdeaPad 5 Pro, and IdeaPad 5G. The latter of these three models is decidedly the most niche, as 5G isn’t something the average consumer probably is looking for in a laptop just yet. Especially considering IdeaPad devices are aimed more at mainstream consumers, as opposed to business users.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5G will support sub-6 GHz networks, but will fall back to 4G speeds where 5G is not available. The IdeaPad 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G SoC with Adreno 680 graphics with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Other specs include a 14-inch 1920×1080 IPS display, 512GB of PCIe SSD storage, and a 51WHr battery that can reportedely run up to 20 hours when continuously watching video.

The notebook features front-facing Dolby Audio speakers, a dual array microphone, an infrared camera for unlocking the notebook with your face. The IdeaPad 5G is also one of the first Lenovo devices to include a new software feature called Show Mode for PC. It basically turns the notebook into an Echo Show-like device. You’ll be able to use Amazon Alexa to play music, launch apps, control your other smart home devices, and more. This new feature will be available sometime in the second quarter of 2021 and is expected to reach select other new and existing IdeaPad laptops in the future.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5G does not yet have a release date or a price, though we do know it won’t be sold in the United States. There will also be a 4G/LTE only version which runs on the Snapdragon 8c platform in select markets.

Now let’s take a quick look at the IdeaPad 5i Pro and IdeaPad 5 Pro. These notebooks will be the first IdeaPad models to feature a 16:10 aspect ratio, which should offer a better multitasking experience over prior IdeaPad laptops. Both the IdeaPad 5i Pro and IdeaPad 5 Pro will be sold in 14-inch and 16-inch versions and come in either Storm Grey or Cloud Grey colors.

The IdeaPad 5i Pro uses 11-generation Intel Core i7 processors, along with onboard Nvidia MX450 graphics. You can get up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 1TB of SSD PCIe M.2 storage in these notebooks. The 14-inch version has a 2.8K IPS display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 400 nits of brightness and a 56.5WHr battery. The 16-inch model has a 2.5K IPS display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 350 nits of brightness. It has a 75WHr battery and supports single cable Thunderbolt 4 technology. The 14-inch version will be sold in Europe in March starting at €699 while the 16-inch model will have a starting price of €899.

The 14-inch IdeaPad 5 Pro will use the next-generation AMD Ryzen H-Series mobile processors, along with onboard Nvidia MX450 graphics. It will support up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 1TB of SSD PCIe M.2 storage. The 2.8K IPS display will have a 90Hz refresh rate and 400 nits of brightness, and a 56.5WHr battery. It will go on sale in March in Europe starting at €799.

The 16-inch IdeaPad 5 Pro will also have the next-gen AMD Ryzen H-Series mobile processors inside. However, buyers will get a choice of graphics chip options, including the upcoming next-gen Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs. You can add up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and up to 1TB of SSD PCIe M.2 storage. The 2.5K IPS display will have a high 120Hz refresh rate and 350 nits pf brightness, along with a 75WHr battery. It will be sold in Europe in May with a starting price of €1,149.99.
