- OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau says the firm will heavily invest in camera capabilities.
- He added that OnePlus is aiming to be tops for camera quality.
The OnePlus 8 Pro marked a turning point of sorts for the company, as it was arguably the first time that a OnePlus phone delivered a competitive camera experience. OnePlus isn’t stopping here though, as it looks like photography will be a major focus area for the firm.
OnePlus co-founder and CEO Pete Lau told a Weibo user (via GSMArena) that the company will invest “huge resources” in the camera field, according to a machine-translated version of his post. The executive added that OnePlus is aiming to become number one in terms of image quality.
Players like Apple, Google, Huawei, and Samsung have all delivered consistently great camera experiences for years now. Meanwhile, the likes of Xiaomi and Vivo have also stepped their game up in recent times. So OnePlus definitely has some stiff competition in the image quality space right now.
Nevertheless, there’s still hope for OnePlus to deliver much-improved quality — you only need to look at Xiaomi. It reportedly established a dedicated camera department back in 2018 with the aim of taking on top players, and these efforts have clearly borne fruit with devices like the Mi 10 series and Mi 10 Ultra.
